Ruiqi Wang 王睿琪, commonly mispronounced as Roo-ee-kee Wan, but actually Ray-Chee Wong, is a composer and improviser from Hangzhou, China, currently based in Switzerland.
She works with voice, body, performance art, and a palette of synthesized, sampled, and processed sounds. Ruiqi creates work that is intimate and surreal, through which she seeks freedom and authenticity.
You can find her as Ruiqi (Two-Options Trio), Rachael (Robot Cat, pronounced like “Har-shell”), or QUI CHIU (solo).
In 2023, Ruiqi released her debut album Subduing the Silence on the Montreal-based independent label Orchard of Pomegranates. The album features an all-female ensemble and a collaboration with the Boston-based Craft Ensemble string quartet. It has received praise from music critics across Denmark, Germany, the Czech Republic, the United States, France, and Canada.
Ruiqi holds a Master’s degree in Music Composition from the Hochschule der Künste Bern in Switzerland, and a Bachelor’s degree in Jazz Performance from McGill University in Canada.
